Wrote and had
produced more than ten plays throughout the country with total budgets in
excess of $2 million. Seven plays commissioned. Productions featured in
numerous media outlets including Atlanta Journal/Constitution; Backstage
Magazine, National Public Radio, The Oregonian, WSB Television and more
than one-hundred others. Winner, North Carolina Arts Council Playwrights
Fellowship. Play, "Reach of Song," named State Historic Drama by
Georgia Legislature.
AUTHOR, SCREENWRITER,
REPORTER 1992- CURRENT
Wrote for numerous
publications including The New York Times; The Atlanta
Journal/Constitution; Duke Magazine; The Raleigh News and Observer; and the
Phnom Penh Post. Book, I Think I'll Drop You Off in Deadwood, in print for
more than ten years and featured in Atlanta Journal/Constitution and The
Library Journal. Worked personally with President Jimmy Carter on play and
screenplay about his life.
FOUNDER/DIRECTOR:
WORLD COMMUNITIES THEATER 1993-CURRENT
Developed
international theater company with associates from throughout the world
which creates plays from significant historic events and world
circumstance. Developed the idea of Human Rights Theater, through which
both the process and the product of theater is meant to both illuminate and
heal. Through university residencies, works across the curriculum to
provide opportunities in theater for students and faculty from a variety of
disciplines, while engaging in the arts as a direct manifestation of the
human condition.

residency with an eye towards community development. Wrote five plays
during residency including, "Transcendence: The Jimmy Carter
Story," in consultation with President Carter, and "Darkness
Lifting," in celebration of Habitat for Humanity's 25th Anniversary.
These productions generated more than a half-million dollars in resources.
In addition, developed symposiums, study abroad opportunities and brought
in noted international artists such as Director Eddie Levi Lee, Cambodian
Poet Chath Piersath, and Bulgarian actress Madelynn Tcholakova. Created a
permanent oral history collection surrounding the civil rights conflicts
which helped to define President Jimmy Carter. Part-Time Professor in both
English and Fine Arts Departments. Assisted community with $4 million
historic theater restoration.
FOUNDER/ARTISTIC
DIRECTOR: THE REACH OF SONG DRAMA/APPALACHIAN EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY 1987-1995
Responsible for about
seventy-five yearly employees. Oversaw, and was responsible for generating,
yearly budgets of as much as $400,000 for annual production. Implemented
all aspects of the production, as well as the marketing and fund-raising.
Originally housed under the Georgia Mountains Regional Development Center, worked with board of
directors to create 501 C-3 to house production for future years.
EDITOR, NORTH GEORGIA NEWS 1986-1987
Wrote news,
editorial, and feature stories for one of the largest circulation weekly newspapers
in north Georgia. Oversaw all reporting,
photography, and other news operations.
